Welcome to vapordubs.com

As you can see, we've cleaned house and made a few changes to the Volkswagen/Audi Partnership of Rockford site. They are for the good, we promise.

Although our old site was a solid start to something special, vapordubs.com better fits the scheme of the club. It sounds better, it's easier to promote, and easier to convey to the public. The forums, our most popular attraction, are still here.

We've added over a thousand photos to our gallery from every event VAPOR has attended in the past few years.

We've also added several events to our calendar and they can be seen and commented on here.

As most of you bookmark the forums, we urge you to check back to the home page frequently as new content will be updated regularly with event results, member bios, and photos.

If you have any questions or concerns on the club's new site, contact the management here.

A few drops of VAPOR knowledge

In 2001 we started throwing flyers on cars all over the Rockford area in an attempt to drum up interest in a Volkswagen/Audi club. It was a small success then especially in part because what we achieved in getting good numbers of people out was done without the internet or cell phones.

We'll admit that then, we didn't have the organization or connections we have now. But we had a few solid GTGs, with about 20 VWs at our first ever VAPOR GTG. Needless to say it was a pleasant surprise.

We also started meting at the Beef-a-Roo on East Riverside in those times, back then the Roo was a happening place though. All types of automotive enthusiasts congregated there. We involved cruising to other hot spots as part of the casual GTG atmosphere.

We met the following summer in the same manner, starting at the Roo and cruising to other locations. I got out of VWs entirely for a period and am credited with the demise of any momentum that VAPOR had at that time. People continued to hang out at Beef-A-Roo and other places but eventually VAPOR kind of died off as an actual group.

Later, there was mention of VAPOR mentioned on a local street racer website and some expressed disappointment that it all went away. A single post on that site planted the idea to try to revive the club.

So we started with setting up Hooters GTG s in late 2003 and using the Vortex as our primary form of communication. We had some fantastic numbers for those initial Hooters GTGs.

But we kind of treaded water for most of 2004. Granted we didn' t have an actual events schedule, we did try to coordinate caravans to other semi local gatherings. We had some good times throughout the summer but it had seemed to plateau again. In fact we had no Rockford people out to the morning portion of the Dub Club Invitational at Treffen in 2004.

What really keyed the complete revival of the club was a few local Dubbers stepping up and helping a lot in the summer/fall of 2004. These brave souls came on board to help form the nucleus for a new management team. At our first meeting in late 2004, we drafted a long term plan to build the local base of enthusiasts and give the club staying power.

We came up with the idea for VAPOR card distribution and drafted the first copy of our current Events schedule. We also put together a designated club design theme (including the cards, decal design, t-shirt design and web design). All of this couldn't have been done without everyone that has chipped in. We have come to a long way since 2001.

I also gotta give props to all the peeps in the streets that are always dropping cards on VW s around town, looking for new members. We have over 250 people signed up for the very successful VAPOR forums.

The forums are sometimes interesting, sometimes weird, but always entertaining. There are many events on the schedule for 2007, and it should be a blast!
